Driving east out of Kingman, AZ, we took the longer, scenic route through the desert and along historic Route 66.
It was easy to have your speed creep up on the long, straight stretches. We got a kick out of the Burma Shave road signs that reminded us to watch how fast we were going. For example:
“Slow down pa,
Sakes alive,
Ma has missed,
Signs four and five.
Burma Shave”
We spent about an hour at the Gas ‘N Grub. The owner was real nice, and Larra told her about our positive experiences with dental work in Los Algodones. For a store in the middle of nowhere, she did a brisk business. We even got to pet the burros.
As we drove through Peach Springs and the Hualapai Indian Reservation, we were closer to the Grand Canyon than we would be for a number of hours.
