We’re there! The Grand Canyon! Larra’s dream trip!
Because we’re coming back tomorrow, this afternoon we simply visited Mather Point, and drove through the park village. We took in the overview, and plotted our strategies for tomorrow.
At 8,000 ft. Above Sea Level, neither Larra nor myself were up to doing much walking. Stopping and catching our breaths took up a lot of our time.
Bear in mind that yesterday morning we were 150 ft. ASL, and last night we were sleeping at 750 ft. ASL. We’d climbed a lot in altitude during today’s drive.
At the park entrance we met Ranger Jackie. Even though it was late in the day, she was cheerful, personable, and offered us a map of the park because, “There’s a great big hole in the ground up ahead, and you don’t want to fall in.”
She also said, “If I qualified for one of those lifetime passes, I wouldn’t have to work here just to get in for free.”
Even after you’re in the park, it’s a bit of a drive to the canyon.
But once you get there… wow!
